Turning romantic observations into playful visual stories.

For I’m More Dateable Than a Plate of Refried Beans and Other Romantic Observations, published by Chronicle Books, I created the book cover along with eight chapter covers, developing a visual approach that brings together custom lettering and illustration.

Inspired by the book’s witty and humorous take on romance, dating, and relationships, each chapter cover was treated as its own playful visual moment. Lettering and illustration work together to translate the personality of each chapter into compositions that feel expressive, unexpected, and full of character.

Across all nine pieces, the challenge was to create distinct visuals while maintaining a cohesive language throughout the book. The result is a series of chapter openers that complement the writing and use humor as a visual tool, adding another layer of personality to the reading experience.
